LO3: Body copy for double page spreads

At only 17 years of age, Yung Shayi has proven himself to be someone to watch out for this year. Since releasing his 4 track EP in January titled 'Watch Out', he has been a name to be reckoned with across the hip-hop game. So far the EP has been played on his Soundcloud page over 200,000 times alone.

I turned up at Shayiís studio with the expectations of crew members, and friends, but to my surprise it was him  himself who let me through the door and what shook me even further was the fact That it was only him and I in the room. We sat down on a couple of leather recliner chairs next to his setup and got talking. I first of all jokily asked him where all his other crew was, ìItís just me, I am Yung Shayi. Nobody else is part of what I do. Of course I have my friends and brothers that come along to the studio from time to time, but what I produce is all done by me. I donít have NO crew, NO security, NO publicists, NO promoters, NO nothiní, just MY mac, MY studio and ME.

He moved on to play me some of his new music that heíd only just finished  producing a few days proir to our meeting. Iím not allowed to release any specific details of what he played me, but if youíre wanting my honest opinion, this guy is only improving as he is gaining more experience in this industry. The tracks that he showed me are going to be huge, theyíre going to be played and listened to over and over again.

His journey through life so far has been a tough one. His dad left him and his  mother when he was only three years old. Not having the man most important to him to guide him through his childhood was difficult to take for Shayi. His mum and his aunty brought him and his sister up in a tiny 2 bed flat in Lambeth, South London. Living in such a rough area and not having much support from family led Shayi to a young life of gangs and violence.

At only fifteen, Shayi found himself up in court with, over the attempted burglary of local jewlers not far from his home. He got given non guilty, as he didnít play a big role in the crime, but was given three weeks community service for his actions. He felt like he had let his guardians down by being a part of  what happened that day. So form then on  he changed. He discovered something that he could do to  take his mind off all the distractions in his life, and that something was music.

He started mixing music and creating beats in 2015. ìI started using a mixing software that I got online
for free, I just downloaded it to my little laptop that I had been provided with by my college. Everyday after college Iíd get home and start vibing. I love experimenting with different drums, hats everything. Anything that can make my music stand out and interest people, I useî.

Considering he only started producing music last year, Yung Shayi has grown to be one of the hottest producers and rappers in the game right now. His background and story only inspires him to make more music and show what he went through in his younger years. ìI want to make my mum, my auntie and my sister proud of me. They already love and think Iím going a great job with what Iím doing. That makes me feel great that I have my family supporting me in something I want to pursue as a careerî.

Yung Shayi is only growing and growing in his music career, you certainy havenít heard the last of this young artist.
