LO3: Showing conventions of the genre

Double Page Spread:

The banner at the top helps give the readers an idea of what to expect in this issue of the magazine.

The masthead is in big letters to show the reader that this is the magazine. Having the people over the top of the text gives the effect that they are coming out of the page.

The main cover line helps the reader identify what is going to the top story in this edition of the magazine. Black and red are contrasting colours and give the page a visually pleasing look.

The main image is directly in the centre of the page. I have used this image because it draws your attention to the page, the way the model is posed and the way he is dressed displays conventions of the genre of my magazine.

The list at the side gives extra insight into what is also inside the magazine.

The lines of text above the barcode show how many different versions there are of the cover and how long the magazine will be on sale for.

The barcode allows the reader to purchase the magazine and the shop to scan the product. It also shows what edition the magazine is, e.g. Apr/May 2016.

Contents Page:

The heading shows the reader that this is the page that they are on.

The text and content headings gives the information of the main features in this edition.

I have chosen this image and changed it to monochrome as hip-hop artists normally talk about history and their stories in their songs. The model is wearing a hat too to show that he is confident and stylish, snapbacks are also normally associated with underground and hip-hop music.

The piece of text in the bottom left hand corner shows the page number and also promotes the magazine and its website. If the reader decided to go onto the website, they could purchase a subscription of the magazine, bringing in extra revenue for the company.

This title is an introduction to the article. It is a clever, snappy point that is related to the main text or the image. In the case of my image, it relates to the background and the artist. As the background is a  graffiti wall of a mario scene and the artist is moving up in the hip-hop game, I feel 'Levelling Up' is an appropriate title.

The piece of text in the bottom left hand corner shows the page number and also promotes the magazine and its website. If the reader decided to go onto the website, they could purchase a subscription of the magazine, bringing in extra revenue for the company.

The main text of my article gives the reader an insight into the life the artist I am featuring.

The first paragraph gives the reader a brief introduction to the artist featured and ends on a poignant sentence to make the reader want to read on to the next page. I wrapped the text around the image of the model so that it flows down the page and makes it easier to read.

The image shows the artist and the background of the graffiti wall. I decided to outline the model in white so that he is able to stand out against a colourful background.

The big letter at the top of the article is a trait that is used in lots of magazines. I have used a big, bold font to display my 'A' so that it is eye grabbing and draws the reader into reading the article.
