What do these mastheads have in common?
- They are all in a very clear, easy to read sans serif font.
- The writing is all in capital letters apart from one of the letters in the 'Hip Hop Connection' masthead. These magazines have used capital letters in their mastheads to connote the strong characters and lyrics from the hip-hop genre.
- The colours of the text contrast well with the background on the page.
- There is text above the main titles on each masthead, this is so the reader can know the artists/articles that are featured in that issue of the magazine.
What do I like about them?
- The colours on the mastheads are very aesthetically pleasing. These will draw the readers attention to the magazine in the shops.
- They all grab my attention and make me want to see more of the pages inside the magazine.

Colours:
I have selected these colours to be possibly presented in my magazine. The black and yellow and the white and the red contrast well together. The black and the yellow are stand out colours, which is the same as Hip-Hop. The genre stands out as a whole and the fashion that the artists and followers wear is very different. The yellow connotes wealth and money that the artists are making from releasing their music. The white would be good as text on a red background, as this will make the writing easy to read and clear.
I will be using the white as a background on my front cover and contents page, the black and red as text on both of these, the black as a background on my double page spread with the yellow for the text and designs.
House Style - Photography:
Front Cover:
Have the model stood up, wearing white and black t-shirt/hoodie and a snapback. The picture will be taken at an eye level angle with the model looking directly into the camera.
Contents:
Have the model stood up, with his back to the text. The text would match the colour of the picture. The model would be wearing a snapback, a black t-shirt and a hoodie.
Double Page Spread:
The model would be stood up but looking away from the camera. The picture would be taken at an eye level angle ideally but could be taken at a high angle to give a different perspective. The model would be wearing a snapback, a jacket and black t-shirt. This is because these clothes relate to the genre of music that I am basing my magazine on, hip-hop.
