Independent Press Standards Organisation. They regulate newspapers and magazines and deal with any complaints about articles in magazines/newspapers. They use the editors code of practise, things like accuracy, invasion of privacy, leading to grief or shock and harassment.
I will adhere to this in the publication of my magazine by not asking personal questions in the interview to the artist, no personal information of the artist will be published and when I am conducting the interview I will make sure the artist is comfortable and when they are answering the questions. I will do this by sending them a copy of the questions first, so they are aware of what they will be answering and if there's any problems, they can let me know beforehand.
2) Obscene Publications Act
Making sure nothing is published that could be seen as 'obscene' for the audience. These things could include nudity, explicit language, violence, depiction of drugs and alcohol.
In my magazine I will make sure that if the artist uses bad language, as my genre is hip-hop, certain letters will be starred out so that the reader can still tell what the artist is saying, while conforming to the censors guidelines. There will be no violence or violent pictures included in my magazine. No images related to drugs or alcohol will be included in my magazine.
3) Libel law
If an article or story is misleading/twisted or untrue about an individual or group, they can sue the publishers under the libel law. Not allowed to publish false information. Also publishers are not allowed to write defamatory content.
The answers that the artist gives in the interview are the answers that will be published in the article. No false information about the artist will be put into the article.
4) Copyright
Where holders of content can protect their intellectual property, for example an image, a logo or a piece of music. To use copyrighted content, permission must be asked for.
I will get the artist to sign a release and consent form, so they can give me the permission to use their image in my photos in my magazine. I will ask the permission to use the artists covers from their music to promote in my magazine as the artwork will be copyrighted.
5) Laws of contempt
It's a criminal offence to publish content that poses a risk to justice. It prevents magazines/newspapers from publishing anything too sensationalist about a criminal case.
Any information that the artist says that could get him in trouble with the law, won't be included in the magazine, as this could alert authorities or give encouragement to readers reading the article.
